Local arts organizations receive statewide recognition

Thursday April 24, 2014

Kansas City is known for its commitment to the arts. And with two organizations receiving statewide awards, that commitment is getting the recognition it deserves. To celebrate, ArtsKC and Missouri Bank will be holding a private reception at mobank’s Crossroads branch where local legislators will honor KC’s recipients of the 2014 Missouri Arts Awards.

This year, the Creative Community award went to the City of Kansas City, MO; and the Arts Organization award went to the UMKC Conservatory of Music & Dance.

"The KC region was the only area in the state to be selected for not one, but two awards for its strength in arts leadership," said Harlan Brownlee, ArtsKC President and CEO.

Missouri State Representative Judy Morgan and Missouri State Senator Jason Holsman will present the recipients with State Resolutions, declaring their continuing commitment to the arts and culture of Missouri. Also in attendance will be Mayor Sly James, UMKC Chancellor Leo E. Morton and ArtsKC President and CEO Harlan Brownlee.

Contributing to the celebration will be live performances from jazz musicians and dancers from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance.

“The City of Kansas City, MO and UMKC’s Conservatory of Music and Dance are playing a big role in making us America’s Creative Crossroads,” said Brownlee.
