One for the Children

Tuesday April 9, 2013

For more than 30 years, The Children’s Place has been committed to meeting the needs of the very youngest survivors of abuse, neglect and trauma. For the past three years, mobank has been committed to helping The Children’s Place raise funds and awareness in the Kansas City community.

This year’s Pace for the Place event is Saturday, April 20. Participants line up at 9 a.m. for a 3-mile saunter, brisk walk or anything in between. Delicious pancakes and family activities await the walkers at the end of the route – a full loop from mobank’s Brookside branch to The Children’s Place and back again. Before the walk begins, kids will be entertained with music from Funky Mama.

“The Children’s Place is a significant nonprofit organization, located right here in the heart of Brookside,” said George Satterlee, mobank’s executive vice president and chief administrative officer. “We are passionate about supporting everything local, and are proud of the way the sponsors and community help us make a difference for this organization.”

The event has come a long way since 2010, when combined efforts raised $3,000. Thanks to generous sponsors and lots of walkers, it raised $20,000 last year.

Registration and entertainment begin at 8 a.m., and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Following that, a pancake breakfast will be served by Chris Cakes, paired with coffee from The Roasterie. The donation, or cost to participate in the event, is $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12.
