Brookside Community Rallies for Children

Friday April 26, 2013

It was more than the smell of hot pancakes and fresh coffee that brought Brooksiders out early Saturday morning, April 20. One hundred eighty-five walkers were there to show their support for The Children’s Place at the fourth annual Pace for the Place walk sponsored by mobank.

The Children’s Place, the only social service agency in Brookside, serves the developmental and mental health needs of children who have been abused or neglected or have suffered a trauma.

Pace for the Place dates back to 2010, when mobank’s Brookside branch was opened. “Rather than throwing a grand opening party all about mobank, we wanted to do something to give back to the neighborhood,” said George Satterlee, mobank’s executive vice president/chief administrative officer.

“While the number of walkers and dollars raised have risen over the years, so has the community pride in this life-changing organization. It’s terrific to see families, neighbors and friends show support. This year, we are very proud that the event raised $25,000 for The Children’s Place.”

As always, walkers devoured a pancake breakfast by Chris Cakes and coffee from The Roasterie. Funky Mama played a live set before the walk and mascots from local sports teams (Blue from Sporting KC and Calvin from The Comets) entertained and cheered on the walkers.
