Neither the chance of rain nor the cool winds could keep the crowds away from mobank's fourth annual Rock. Paper. Scissors. Throwdown Tournament on First Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. Sixty-four RPS champions representing local businesses and organizations showed up to battle for the championship title and all put up a good fight, showing true defensive strength.

Hundreds of spectators filled the mobank Crossroads parking lot, cheering on their favorite players and enjoying Roasterie coffee, Boulevard beer and New York Dawg Pound hot dogs. Sean McNown added to the ambiance with live music inside the branch while Phil Kinen knocked it out of the park once again as the event’s emcee. The new orange mobank bike also made its official debut at RPS, courtesy of Kansas City B-Cycle. The KC B-Cycle street team was on hand to give demos and talk about how bike sharing in Kansas City works.

Former RPS Champions were also in attendance and proudly sported their champion belts. Reigning champ Christi Milne of The Brick wore her signature RPS attire and brought a support team to gear her up to defend her title. 2010 RPS Champion Charlie Barnard of Foot Traffic was there to cheer on his team, and once again generously donated a pair of the highly coveted Foot Traffic rock, paper, scissors-themed socks to all RPS players. Special guests Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, and mascot Blue from Sporting KC also took part in the throwdowns. Bob from Cramer, at 92 years young, was our oldest competitor that night and in RPS history. He held his own in the competition and delighted the crowd with his witty repartee on stage.

The final throwdown found Aaron Kohrs of the Kansas City Police Department pitted against Jeff Beith of Bazillion, who came out swinging in a boxer's getup and had the Bazillion team in attendance to cheer him on. In the end, Aaron’s unstoppable throws earned him the title of mobank's RPS Champion 2012, the spoils of which include a championship belt, a gift basket filled with prizes and eternal bragging rights. Aaron, who is no stranger to mobank, frequents our doors as a security guard and goes down in RPS history by being the first Champion to break the streak of RPS champions' names beginning with the letter "c."
