RPS III: Thick as a Brick
Friday Oct 14, 2011
Rock dulls scissors and paper wraps rock, but Brick crushes all.
That was the case at mobank's third annual Rock. Paper. Scissors. Throwdown Tournament during October's First Friday festivities, where Christi Milne from Crossroads-district tavern The Brick triumphed over 41 other contestants to earn her name on the trophy along with a champion belt and a gift basket full of winner-worthy goodies.
Each contestant was the winner of an in-house tournament at his/her respective workplace, so this was truly a contest of the best of the best. Yes, that's hyperbolic. Hyperbole is par for the course in a tournament designed for fun, with nothing at stake but a bit of bragging rights.
Fun was the order of the night – a comfortable, beautiful night that saw a huge crowd descend on the Crossroads for what was widely expected to be the last great-weather First Friday of the year. Once again, Phil Kinen did a fantastic job as event emcee, while Bad Dadz (featuring Tom Gray, mobank senior vice president and general counsel) provided live music.
Coffee drinkers were happy as The Roasterie was in attendance, once again, serving up coffee blends out of their signature van in the mobank drive-thru.
The "mobank dawg," a creation by mobank customer New York Dawg Pound, made its debut at RPS. The culinary delight – featuring chili, jalapenos and a fried egg wrapped in a tortilla – was personally selected by mobank CEO Grant Burcham.
Special recognition goes out to mobank customer Meers Advertising, runner-up for the second year in a row. Keep plugging, Meers; your year is coming.
